MATH
Class Description: The instructional math classes utilize one of two curriculums: Math Expressions (grades K-5) or Savvas Realize (6-8) depending on students' individual math levels. Math topics will pertain and align with math standards at each instructional level; students will be working out of the math workbooks based on their skill level. LA/Lit Class Description: This LA/Lit class utilizes the Read 180/System 44 program, a reading intervention program designed by Scholastic. It is broken down into 4 instructional models: whole-group instruction (20 min), modeled and independent reading (20 min), use of the Read 180/System 44 instructional software (20 min), and small group guided instruction with the teacher on various writing and comprehension topics (20 min). In addition to the Read 180/System 44 program, we supplement modified materials during whole group instruction that align with LA/Lit classes (i.e. stems instruction, grammar lessons, reading comprehension activities, and journaling). SCIENCE
Class Description:
Depending on the grade level, students will be studying topics using STEMscopes curriculum to align with the science standards. Topics for each grade level will include:
8th grade- solids/liquids/gases, elements, chemical reactions, magnetism, electricity, motion, forces, atoms, work and energy.
7th grade- cells, genetics, forensics, animals, ecology, atmosphere.
6th grade- process skills, water cycle, cells, geologic history, rock cycle, waves, force and motion.

Class Description: Depending on the grade level, students will be studying the following topics in social studies: 8th grade: Gilded Age, Imperialism, World War I & II, Great Depression, Cold War, Civil Rights, Vietnam War, 1970's-2000, Federal and State Constitution. 7th grade: discovery and colonization of America, early colonization and democracy (American Revolution), early America and government, westward expansion, American Civil War. 6th grade: various civilizations from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and the Americas.
